ASHSAA Girls Basketball: Warriors still No. 1 — Sharks biting at No. 2

The Faga’itua High School Vikings Girls Varsity basketball team, who won four straight games, had their winning streak come to an end this past Tuesday when they stepped onto the court with the Samoana Sharks in Sharksville.

The #3 Vikings last loss was to the Sharks back on March 3rd, in which the Sharks put a walloping on the Vikings. On Tuesday, the outcome was not a wallop, but still the result was the same, as the Sharks came out on top — 20-15. The Vikings did come out strong in the first half and have improved on the defensive side of the ball as it showed on Tuesday.  Unfortunately they could not capitalize on the turnovers that plagued the Sharks. With the win, the Sharks remain in the second place spot, while the Vikings hold on to third place at this time.

Also on Tuesday, the #4 Fa’asao Marist Cougars captured their third win of the season, against the winless Nu’uul VocTech Wildcats, who occupy the bottom of the standings sitting at the #7 spot. The Cougars captured the win with a 36-20 victory. With the win, the Cougars who were #5 pushed themselves up to the #4 spot, dropping the Leone Lions to the #5 spot.

There are no scheduled games for today, and Samoa News could not retrieve the scores of yesterday’s games between the Sharks vs the Lions and the Cougars vs the Lions. These two games were originally scheduled for tomorrow (Friday), but were pushed back to yesterday.

The next set of Girls Varsity basketball games will be on Monday, April 7, where the top two teams — the Tafuna Warriors, who are ranked #1, will be taking on the #2 Sharks in Tafuna.

Also on Monday, the Wildcats will see if they can get out of the bottom of the cellar when they take on the #6 ranked South Pacific Academy Dolphins with the location yet to be determined.

Samoa News will continue to bring the latest updates in this year’s American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball season.
