Conflicting stories from Magiagi

There is confusion over the latest development in the dispute between Magiagi and the Government over electricity meters.

According to the Office of the Press Secretariat, Electric Power Corporation (EPC) workers and technicians from sub-contractor McClean’s Electrical moved in yesterday morning to install cash power meters.

The installation, which follows a meeting between Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi and Magiagi on Thursday evening, appears to signal the end of the longstanding dispute.

But Magiagi’s reinstated pulenu’u, Tuiono Leto’afa Keni had a different version of events. He confirmed that while EPC workers turned up yesterday morning, “we politely told them to leave because our village has yet to meet to discuss the issue.”

Tuiono said Magiagi is meeting today to finalise its position.
