Sharks lead J-V in bid for fourth straight title

Three-time defending champs Samoana Sharks lead the ASHSAA Girls 2013-2014 junior varsity division in their bid for a fourth title in a row.

The competition kicked off on Jan. 23 with Samoana easily winning its first game 5-2 against Tafuna and then facing a tougher competitor in the Faga’itua Vikings on Jan. 25.

In that match the Vikings were down 5-1 at one point before slowly coming back to tie it at 5-5. They ran out time otherwise with the way momentum had shifted in their favor Faga’itua could have ended up with the win.

Faga’itua also drew its first game, 1-1, against Leone. The Leone-Tafuna match on January 25 was postponed due to transportation problems.

To complete the first of the season’s two round-robins Tafuna takes on Faga’itua while Samoana plays against Leone on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

Below are the standings so far of the competition:

Samoana 1 1 0 -4pts

Fagitua 0 2 0 -2 pts

Leone 0 1 0 -1 pt

Tafuna 0 0 1 -0 pts
