VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: AYFS SEASON 5 IS ON!

Season 5 of American Youth Football of Samoa (AYFS) took off last Saturday with 3 nail-biting match ups to welcome the 2014 season.  Over the four years of AYFS, led by President Shiloh Pritchard, the league has managed to build the athleticism of our young generation, who are destined to pump up high school football.

AYFS is making a big difference in ASHSAA football today, with the well coordinated student athletes who have been playing from the lower level moving onto Varsity. Samoa News records show that this year’s high school football players include the 1st class of AYFS athletes after the program was founded back in January 2010.

College recruiters from off island have noticed penalties and mistakes made in games have been reduced since the formation of AYFS. Coordination of plays and execution is synced and it all started building from the AYFS level.

WEEK 1

The opening of the AYFS Season brought hard hitting match ups and outstanding play execution with a triple header scheduled on a hot, sunny day.

Game No.1 was between the Cowboys and the Bears — a match anticipated by both teams. The Cowboys hold a clean slate after defeating the Bears 22 - 8. The Bears were the first to score early in the game, with their first offensive drive weakening the Cowboys’ defense to score their first 8 points. The second half went in favor of the Cowboys, making an impact with the help of the Bears mistakes that led the game to full-time, 22 - 8.

Game No.2 between the Raiders and the Falcons was a big statement game from Lauli’i to all the teams for AYFS, that they are not the same team. Falcons blew the Raiders out to open up this season with a 36 - 6 win, and are now awaiting their next opponents. The first half of the match was all Falcons as they were slowly building their way to perfect their play executions, and it played a big part throughout the whole game, resulting in the final score that was mostly built during the last quarter.

Game No.3 between the Steelers and the Chargers was the highlight of the day, with the first shutout of the season, now on record for the Steelers defensive unit. The Chargers were helpless on offense throughout a majority of the game due to their linemen’s size in comparison to the Steelers. Steelers locked out the Chargers 16 - 0.
