Arts Council proposes plan to promote museum

The Arts Council (American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture and Humanities) is proposing collaboration with ASG entities— such as a partnership with the KVZK TV to establish an ongoing awareness program for the community regarding the Jean P. Haydon Museum.

In its FY 2013 fourth quarter performance report, the Arts Council is also proposing a working relationship with the Territorial Office on Aging (TAOA) to revive cultural demonstration programs at the museum.

Additionally, they are proposing collaboration with the American Samoa Visitors Bureau and tour operators to address the possibly of establishing activities which may generate money, which could be used to improve museum displays and thereby enhance visitor's experience when visiting the museum.

Also included would be a proposal to Samoan Affairs Office to establish a program encouraging families to donate cultural assets in their possession to the museum to be preserved and displayed there.

Meanwhile, the Arts Council said efforts have began to expand the museum by exploring and identifying a new location where a suitable museum could be built that would adequately and securely preserve, store and display “all our national treasurers.”
