ASHSAA Girls Varsity Volleyball goes into Quarterfinals

The American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) 2013-2014 Girls Varsity Volleyball season will be heading into Quarterfinals Monday with the regular season ending last Thursday.

The entire regular season was all about the ASHSAA defending champion Tafuna Warriors as they defeated every team that stood on the other side of the net, beginning with the first time they defeated the Faga’itua Vikings who have been chasing the Warriors since.

Throughout the regular season, the Vikings also defeated every opponent they faced staying in that second place spot behind the number one Warriors, until the last game of the regular season when both of these teams met for the second time.

It was the most important game of the regular season, because if the Warriors won, they would keep their top ranked spot with a bye in the Quarterfinals, but if the Vikings took the victory, they would take over the top spot due to defeating the higher ranked team.

The Vikings did manage to pull out that victory over the Warriors last Wednesday and now have a bye going into the Quarterfinals. They will be playing in the Semi-Finals this coming Thursday, which should be enough time for them to rest up.

This coming Monday in the Quarterfinals, it will be the #2 Warriors facing the #7 Kanana Fou Stallions at Tafuna High School, as the #3 Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats will be playing the #6 Iakina Adventist Academy Saints at the South Pacific Academy gymnasium.

On Tuesday in the other Quarterfinals game, the #4 Leone Lions will play the #5 Fa’asao Marist Cougars at the Malaeloa gymnasium.

Thursday will be the start of the Semifinals where the #1 Vikings will face the lowest ranked winner from the Quarterfinals with the game taking place in Faga’itua. The other Semi-Finals game on Thursday will have the remaining two winning teams from the Quarterfinals facing each other at the higher seeded team’s court. The championship finals will be on Tuesday November 26 at the home of the higher seeded team’s court.

The #8 ranked team will not advance to the Quarterfinals as their season ended at the end of the regular season.
