Girls Softball Quarter-Finals set for Saturday

Tomorrow — Saturday October 12th — will be the American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Softball Quarter-Finals with a scheduled starting time of 8:00 a.m. at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field. The #2 seeded Tafuna Warriors were scheduled to play the #5 seeded Fagaitua Vikings. Unfortunately, the Vikings made a voluntary forfeit. The forfeit automatically thrust the Warriors into the Semi-Finals.

In tomorrow’s other Quarter-Finals game, the defending champion Fa’asao Marist Cougars, seeded #3, will be taking on the #4 seeded Leone Lions. With the voluntary forfeit of the Vikings, the Warriors will be playing in the Semi-Finals this coming Tuesday against the winner of the game between the Cougars and Vikings.

The Tuesday Semi-Final game has a scheduled starting time of 3:30 p.m. The #1 seeded Samoana Sharks advanced all of the way to the championship game that is scheduled for next Saturday October 19 at the Solaita Baseball Field at 8:00 a.m. The Sharks will be facing the winner of the Quarter-Final game.

Even though the Sharks and Warriors both finished with a 3 win and 1 loss record, the Sharks were able to down the Warriors earlier in the regular season in their only match-up before the two-week cancellation of all ASHSAA sports by the Department of Education, forcing a shortened season with no second round.

The Lions and Cougars both finished the regular season at 2 wins and 2 loses, while the Vikings finished their whole season at 0 wins and 4 losses.

Following the championship game on Saturday, October 19, there will be an All Star Exhibition Game showcasing the best ASHSAA Girls Softball players in the territory.

DOE/ASHSAA invites the public out to all of these games in support of our athletes and their sports.
