Wife killer jailed for life in Samoa

The sentence for Lafaele Taue’etia, 27, was handed down by His Honour, Justice Pierre Slicer on Wednesday.The man from Nonoa Sale’imoa pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder over the death of his wife, Daisy Taue’etia on 14 June 2013.However, after a two-day trial, the assessors found him guilty.Lawyers, Precious Chang and Leone Su’a Mailo, of the Attorney General’s Office were the prosecutors while Tima Leavai represented the defendant.During the hearing, the Court was told that on the night of the incident, the defendant, who was drunk, got into an argument with his wife.The defendant’s older brother tried to intervene but left after trying unsuccessfully to stop the argument.Later, the defendant took his wife to their cookhouse.After a period of time, Daisy ran to the front of the house screaming for help before she collapsed.The defendant followed her, crying and asking for a car to take his wife to the hospital.Daisy arrived at around 10pm at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital. She was pronounced dead upon arrival.The deceased displayed a stab wound on her chest; however the object allegedly used to stab her was unconfirmed.
