Exhibit shows Polynesian Cultural Center history

HONOLULU (AP) - A photo exhibit depicting the history of the Polynesian Cultural Center is going on display at Honolulu Hale to mark the 50th anniversary of the windward Oahu attraction.The exhibit will be up through Oct. 10.The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened the center in 1963 to help preserve and perpetuate Polynesian culture and provide work opportunities for students at neighboring Brigham Young University-Hawaii.More than 37 million people from around the world have since visited the center in Laie. Nearly 15,000 BYU-Hawaii students have earned money to pay for their schooling while working as guides, performers and other employees at the center.
