2012 Summer Olympic Games Update: AmSam’s Nathaniel Tuamoheloa
The 2012 Summer Olympic Games, officially the games of the XXX Olympiad, in London, England that began on July 27, are nearing the end of competition and one of the sports being played out at this time is wrestling, in which American Samoa has a competitor. Eighteen year old Nathaniel Tuamoheloa is competing in the 96kg class in the Men’s Freestyle today. Due to time difference, with London being ahead of American Samoa by 12 hours, Tuamoheloa will actually compete Sunday morning in London, which is Saturday night here in American Samoa.
Team Samoa’s Rudolph Berking-Williams was able to make it to the Semi-finals in the Men’s Canoe Single (C1) when he had the qualifying time of 51.483 this week in his heat, but unfortunately, he was not able to make it out of the semi-finals this past Thursday. His time of 54.471 was not fast enough for him to move on to the finals which were yesterday. He placed 8th overall in a field of 8 in his semi-final race. Twenty year old Talitiga Crawley, who competes in the Women’s 67kg class in the sport of Taekwondo for Samoa, had her preliminary match yesterday against Milica Mandic of Serbia, while teammate Kaino Thomsen-Futaga (21) competed yesterday in the Men’s 80kg class also in the sport Taekwondo against Anthony Obame of Gabon. Samoa News was not able to retrieve the results of the matches as of press time.
The United States now has more Gold, Silver and Bronze medals than China, who is right behind the United States in total medals. Host nation Great Britain, is now making its way up the medal count just behind Russia who has made a late surge coming into the last days of these 2012 Olympic Games
