More wins for Am. Samoa tennis players at Oceania Plate
Day two of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Oceania Plate 2013 taking place in Nadi, Fiji from August 19-22 has the five American Samoa junior tennis players coming out strong on the first two days, despite a few losses. Fiji time is 23 hours ahead of American Samoa time and has already concluded. Samoa News was not able to retrieve those results as of press time.
On day 2, American Samoa’s Senior Boys player Kevin Maukoloa was victorious in both of his matches. Maukoloa defeated Christino Fujiyana from the Solomon Islands in two sets 6-2, 6-2, as he also downed American Samoa teammate Larry Magalasin 7-5, 6-2.
After Day 2, Maukoloa is 4-0 in matches, winning eight sets and dropping only one. Next up for Maukoloa was Manoa Desvignes of Tahiti.
American Samoa’s other Senior Boys player, Magalasin, was victorious on the first day of play winning both of his matches. However on Day 2, not only was Magalasin defeated by Maukoloa, he lost to Desvignes as well in two sets 1-6, 5-7. After Day 2, Magalasin stands at two wins and two losses in matches, while winning four sets and dropping four sets. Next up for him was Lataisi Mwea of Kiribati.
American Samoa’s Junior Boys player Juma Vigas was also successful on his first day of play and was successful again on Day 2 when he had a walkover/unopposed victory over Joshua Manate of Tahiti. Vigas also defeated Clement Mainguy of Vanuatu in three sets 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-0. Vigas is 3-0 in matches, winning four sets and dropping only one. Vigas’s next opponent was Michael Ren of the Northern Mariana Islands (NMI).
Charity Saigiao is also representing American Samoa junior tennis in a winning way as she has downed all three of her opponents in the Junior Girls Division, with one of the wins coming on Day 2 when she defeated Tania Tan of NMI 6-2, 6-2. Saigiao is 3-0 in her matches and has not dropped any sets, winning all six. Saigiao’s faces off against Anasis Saipele of Samoa in her next match.
American Samoa’s youngest player in the Oceania Plate is Lesei Perelini who competes in the 12 & Under Girls. Perelini is also having a strong showing this week as she knocked off all of her three opponents, with the latest being Anne Skilling of the Federated States of Micronesia 6-0, 6-0 on Day 2. Perelini 3-0 in matches and is 6-0 in sets. Perelini’s next opponent was Rosalie Molbaleh of Vanuatu.
