Girls Varsity Volleyball teams set for playoffs today

The American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) girls Varsity volleyball playoffs are set for today, and the top four teams include - Leone High School seeded #1, Tafuna High School seeded #2, Faga'itua High School seeded #3 and Samoana High School seeded #4. This past Monday, the Samoana Sharks were the last team to make it to the playoffs, when they defeated the very determined Kanana Fou Stallions in three sets...17-10, (13-17), 15-13, at Samoana high school. With the win, the Sharks (9 wins 5 loses) made it to the playoffs taking the #4 seed, forcing the Fa'asao Marist Cougars out of the playoffs and ending their season, as they finished with a record of 8 wins and 6 loses and 5th place overall.Today, with a scheduled starting time of 4:00 p.m., the #1 seeded Leone Lions, will take on the underdog team of the #4 seeded Samoana Sharks. The Sharks not only have the lowest seed, but will be traveling to Leone to play in front of, what will surely be a pro-Lion crowd.In the other playoff game today, the #2 seeded Tafuna Warriors, will have home court advantage (THS gymnasium), when they face off with the Faga'itua Vikings who are seeded #3.The venue for the championship game that is scheduled for this coming Friday, will be announced in Samoa News on Friday, the day of the game. Champions for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity, will be recognized immediately following the championship game on Friday.In the Junior Varsity division, there are no playoffs and the Warriors have earned the championship title with an undefeated record, with the Vikings taking second place overall. Also in the Junior Varsity division, there was one last game played, which took place this past Monday, when the Sharks downed the Stallions in three sets, finishing the season out for both teams at 6 wins and 6 loses.\I want to congratulate all of the schools and say fa'afetai tele for a great season this year.
