Father’s Day 2013 celebrated Sunday

American Samoa will be preparing for Father’s Day 2013 which will include special church programs throughout the territory tomorrow, performed by fathers and for fathers, and will include skits about Bible stories and singing.

Unlike the busy Mother’s Day weekend, Father’s Day weekend is not expected to create much traffic in the Laufou Shopping Center area with shoppers. However, traffic may be busy in areas where there are ATM bank machines, because ASG employees who are paid thru direct deposit usually get their money in their bank account today (on Saturday), while those with paper pay checks won’t get them until Monday— the actual ASG payday.

Florists are reporting brisk business with a lot of pre-orders of certain flower leis specifically tailored for fathers. Grocery stores will also be busy with last minute shopping for Father’s Day feasts. Some stores are also offering candy leis for last minute shoppers tomorrow morning.

Several restaurants are offering special Father’s Day brunches on Sunday. See Samoa News editions throughout this week for various restaurants and hotels providing Father’s Day specials.

Meanwhile, police plan to beef up road patrol to ensure a safe Father’s Day weekend in American Samoa. The rest of the nation will also be celebrating Father’s Day tomorrow.

Reports from the Pago Pago International Airport indicate flights between the two Samoas are operating normally, unlike Mother’s Day weekend which had very heavy traffic on the inter Samoa route.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers of American Samoa on their special day.
