Samoa public servant charged over ‘ice'

An employee of the Quarantine Division has appeared before the Supreme Court accused of being in possession of methamphetamine, a drug commonly referred to as ‘ice.’Represented by lawyer, Tole’afoa Solomona Toa’iloa, Junior Patau, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge, appeared before Justice Pierre Slicer on Tuesday when his trial began.Lawyers Precious Chang and Fa’aniniva Edelma Niumata, from the Office of the Attorney General, are representing the Police.According to the summary of facts, the alleged incident occurred on 15 December last year at the Faleolo International Airport.Mr. Patau was apparently at the airport to pick up a suitcase in which the drugs were found.Yesterday, the Court heard evidence from Taualeo’o Aifiti and Ietitaia Iosia, both employees of the Customs Department.
