Investigation into possible suicide of Pago Pago man on-going
Criminal Investigation Division with the Department of Public Safety is investigating the death of a man who was found hanging in his bedroom with a sheet wrapped around his neck, said Acting Commissioner Leiseau Vaitoe’alau Laumoli, responding to Samoa News queries.
The 60-year-old father of eight from Pago Pago was found by family members in his bedroom Monday night. According to close relatives of the deceased, he was intoxicated and was upset at someone or something that led to this. The family member also stated that this is not the first time such an incident has happened.
“My uncle also attempted this same act last year December however our family got there in time — this time he succeeded. It’s unfortunate but someone or something must have really upset him for such an end result as this,” said the family member who wished not to be named.
He told Samoa News, someone ran to his house and told him what happened, and when he ran over, he saw his uncle with a sheet wrapped around his neck — but it was too late, he was gone. They then contacted authorities and afterwards cut him from the sheets.
Commander Lavata’i Ta’ase Sagapolutele said that CID is treating this case as a homicide until otherwise found, but declined to go into details.
Samoa News understands, three of the eight children resided with their father, while the wife of the man is currently off island with the others.
