FUIMAONO NIUINITONE TAMAALI’I is ARTHUR A. MORROW AWARD RECIPIENT

On Friday, April 26, 2013 the American Samoa Bar Association held their Annual Meeting and Barrister’s Ball at Ta’alolo Lodge, where they elected new officers for their 2013-2014 year and handed out a very special award—the Justice Arthur A. Morrow Award.

Judge John Ward presented the award to Fuimaono Niuinitone Tamaali’i. “Tone”, as he is known, is a retired court translator and probation officer, and was chosen for his outstanding commitment to the community during his tenure as a probation officer and beyond said Ward.

The award is named to honor Chief Justice Arthur A. Morrow, the longest serving Chief Justice of American Samoa, whose tenure spanned from 1937 to 1966. It is meant to recognize the selfless work and efforts of those individuals who have strived to improve the administration and interests of justice, and have helped to expand the rule of law in our Territory.

Nominations for the award are open to individuals and organizations who have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, integrity, competence and dedication in their work, and who have also improved access to pro bono services in American Samoa.

Last year, the award was given to Mrs. Ipu Lefiti for her outstanding work as an advocate for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Surprised when he was informed of his selection, Tone expressed heartfelt gratitude for the acknowledgement. He was given a plaque and a monetary gift.
