Bird strike grounds HAL's Monday flight back to Hawaii

A Hawaiian Airline jetliner is grounded at the Pago Pago International Airport after it sustained damage following a bird strike Monday night.

Specific details of when the incident occurred were not immediately known but the flight was from Honolulu landed safety. No injuries were reported.

“...due to aircraft damage from a severe bird strike” Hawaiian’s return flight 466 from Pago Pago to Honolulu on Monday night is cancelled, said Mitzi Semo, the local Hawaiian station manager, in a memo to local authorities that evening.

The memo was also distributed to airport users and posted at the airline’s airport office.

Semo said the airline is awaiting the procurement of a new part, which is tentatively scheduled to arrive tomorrow and passengers will be rebooked on the new flight.  Passengers will also be advised of the new flight date and time.
