List of VIPS arriving for Flag Day 2013 grows

The governor’s office has announced that the Samoa’s Head of State Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, along with Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi have confirmed their attendance for this year’s Flag Day celebration next Wednesday.

Also confirmed to attend is the U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, David Huebner, who is based in Wellington and visited Pago Pago last year. Other confirmed VIPs are Congressman Faleomavaega Eni and Nikolao Pula, the executive director for the Interior Department’s Office of Insular Affairs.

Not yet confirmed, as of Thursday this week, is the attendance of the Indonesian Ambassador to the U.S. and the governor of Utah.

According to Lt. Gov. Lemanu Peleti Mauga, who is co-chairing the Flag Day Committee, along with the Governor’s Chief of Staff Fiu Johnny Saelua, the first event on Flag Day is the fautasi race, set to begin around 7a.m. next week Wednesday in Pago Pago Harbor.

Thereafter the program shifts to the Veterans Memorial Stadium for the official flag raising ceremony and other activities.

They also pointed out that decorations have already been put up at many areas of Tutuila and urged the public not to destroy them or take them down.

Lemanu invites the public to attend all Flag Day activities including Monday and Tuesday’s Arts Council program at Utulei beach.
