ASHSAA Boys soccer season kicks off

The Tafuna Warriors came out victorious over the Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats in the season opener of the 2012-2013 ASHSAA Boys Soccer season that kicked off on Monday, April 1 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

Both the J-V and varsity squads won their games for Tafuna with the junior varsity team winning by forfeit.  The Wildcats did not have enough players with the proper equipment to start the match.

Tafuna’s varsity squad won 4-1 but struggled in the second half after putting up three goals in the first.

Ryan Pa’aga, Keniseli Tupuola and Sinisa Tua scored the Warriors three goals in the first half while Kid Bartley completed his team’s final tally of the match.

Alai Semeatu scored in the second half for the Wildcats.

There are five schools competing in the J-V and varsity divisions ― Fa’asao-Marist Crusaders, Warriors, Samoana Sharks, Faga’itua Vikings and the Wildcats.

The Vikings are the defending champions in the varsity division while Samoana is last year’s title holder for the J-V bracket.

Samoana starts the defense of their title from last year against the Crusaders on April 5 while the Vikings take on the Sharks on April 6.

There will be no playoffs for both divisions this school year but the champions will be determined by most points at the end of the competition. Teams earn three (3) points for a win, one (1) for a tie and zero (0) for a loss.

There are two rounds of games scheduled for the boys high school soccer league.

The first tiebreaker used in case of two teams with equal points is the differential in goals for and against while the second one is goals scored.
