FONO LEADERS INVITED TO ATTEND ASG LEADERSHIP ETHICS TRAINING

The government is extending their invitation to the Fono leaders and their staff to attend the government’s executive branch sponsored seminar “Leadership and Ethical Conduct”, says a letter sent by Human Resources Director Le’i Sonny Thompson who has been directed by the governor to oversee this seminar.

According to the letter sent to the Fono leaders, Le’i noted that this seminar focuses on ensuring that all persons in leadership positions employed by the government abide by the laws and that their conduct both on and off duty exemplifies transparency, honesty and commitment to the new administration’s mission “People First”.

“We thought this is a great opportunity to share some of your concerns from the Legislative perspective and perhaps provide advice on matters relative to Ethical Behavior and Professional Conduct,” said the HR Director.

An invitation was also sent to Chief Justice Michael Kruse to attend the two-day seminar on April 5-6, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lee Auditorium.

The governor’s move is to ensure at the start of his administration that all directors fully understand their role as leaders as well as ethical questions involved.

Gov. Lolo M. Moliga said in the memo sent out earlier that “we promised our people that our administration is dedicated to the basic tenet of ‘doing the right things the right way all the time’.” He added that it’s “mandatory that all directors participate in this workshop.”

The workshop is facilitated by San Diego State University.

Rep. Maugaoalii Sipa Anoa’i is seeking assistance from the ASPA CEO Utu Abe Malae to expedite the completion of a project that has been pending in Fagatogo for over a decade.

The Fagatogo Faipule said when Utu was the previous CEO for ASPA the territory underwent major capital infrastructure improvements through the laying of a waste-line system. He acknowledged past work done to bring the sewer system on line for Fagatogo.

"The only setback,” he said, “in the construction of the lines in our village is that quite a few homes were not included.” He noted that during a recent House hearing, it was revealed the cause of delay was inadvertent and the the Authority has recently applied to the US Environmental Protection Agency for funding to connect the entire bay area villages to the sewer line.

More than twenty (20) homes are currently not connected to the sewer line in Fagatogo and that makes up about one-fourth (1/4) of the total number of homes that are proposed for this funding.

Rep. Maugaoalii pleaded with the ASPA CEO to make the Fagatogo project a priority.
