Trash problem vexes Utulei residents

An Utulei resident complained to Samoa News this week about the mountain of trash piling up behind the Gov. H. Rex Lee Auditorium. He said he has called ASPA numerous times to ask them to remove the trash and stated that they said they would come out and pick it up.

“For the past four months I have called ASPA to remove the rubbish and they always say they will pick it up. It just keeps getting worse and worse. People come here at night and throw their trash out and treat it like it's the land fill,” said the resident who wished not to be named.

“I am not blaming ASPA for the problem, but they did say they would pick it up. I just wish the people would quit throwing their trash here. There is even a big green trash bin on the spot, but there is so much trash being thrown here that the trash bin cannot hold all of it. So the people just throw it on the ground when the bin is full. It has to stop. It attracts rats and stray dogs, along with all kinds of insects. The smell is even getting worse,” said the resident.
