Update: ASHSAA Boys Basketball

The American Samoa High Athletic Association (ASHSAA) boys basketball season is in its 4th week with exciting basketball action in both the varsity and junior varsity divisions. The Samoana Sharks lead the way in the varsity division with an undefeated record, while the Sharks junior varsity stands undefeated as well, alongside the Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats. Right behind the Sharks in the varsity standings are the Faga’itua Vikings and the Tafuna Warriors. The Leone Lions and Fa’asao Marist Crusaders are not too far behind the leaders, but still need to pick it up once the playoffs roll around on March 6. The Wildcats and South Pacific Academy Dolphins have yet to get their engines warm in this year’s race. But on the bright side for the Dolphins, they do have one win, which is one more than the Wildcats, even though the win came against the Wildcats last month on a forfeit, it could still lift their morale in the coming weeks. In the junior varsity division, the undefeated teams of the Sharks and Wildcats met on January 28, with the game ending in a 28-28 tie. They are not scheduled to meet again until Friday February 22. The only other team close to these two top teams is the Tafuna Warriors, standing only one game behind them in the win column. The Crusaders, Lions and Vikings have not been playing up to par and may not catch up to the top two teams as the season moves forward. The coordinator for the boys basketball league Tumua Matu’u would like to invite the public out to all of the games in this year’s ASHSAA boys basketball season, in support of ASHSAA sports and its athletes. Today’s games will have the Dolphins taking on the Warriors at Tafuna in a varsity match up, while the Vikings will be traveling to Leone to take on the Lions in a junior varsity game. To start the fifth week of action, which will begin next Monday February 11, the Crusaders will be playing the Sharks at Fa’asao High School, as the Warriors travel to the home of the Wildcats. On Wednesday February 13, the Sharks will make a trip to the East Side to face the Vikings, as the Warriors play the Lions in Leone. To finish out next week, the Dolphins play the Crusaders at Fa’asao and the Vikings will be traveling to the home of the Warriors. All games are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m.Here are the latest standings going into today’s match ups.
