Young man found hanged in Leone

The Department of Public Safety is investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who was found hanging from a mango tree behind his house in Leone early Wednesday morning.

Samoa News contacted Commander Lavata’i Taase Sagapolutele who confirmed the on-going investigation, but declined to give details and referred all inquiries to Appointed Police Commissioner William Haleck.

This would be the first homicide the CID is working on for 2013. Haleck told Samoa News that they are treating this as a homicide until proven otherwise and Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division are currently looking into the matter.

He explained that family members of the deceased found him hanging from a mango tree behind the house and they alerted police and contacted the Emergency Medical Services for assistance. He further said the body was then transported to the LBJ hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Haleck said, they are exploring all options with this homicide investigation and if necessary they will request an autopsy from the LBJ hospital.
