Samoa and Palau have been named in the list of top ten ethical destinations in the world for 2013.The top ten list created by the Californian non-profit organisation Ethic Traveler also includes Barbados, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Ghana, Latvia, Mauritius and Uruguay. It is the third time Palau has made the list.According to Palau’s Island Times, Ethic Traveler reviews the policies and practices of hundreds of nations each year, then selects the ten it believes are doing the best job of promoting human rights, preserving the environment and upholding civil society while maintaining a community-based tourism industry.Ethical Traveler says these ten countries understand that islands are being severely impacted by climate change and are therefore taking the vanguard in progressive environmental policies. It says Palau, Samoa and Maritius have been recognised for putting strong emphasis on greening their economies and implementing sustainable development programmes.
