American Samoa’s junior tennis player Kevin Maukaloa, who is competing at this time with other players from the Pacific at the 2013 ‘Margaret Court Cup’ Junior Tennis Tournament in Albury, Australia won his matches on Friday.

Maukaloa, along with other Pacific players from several island nations, is representing the Oceania Region in Albury. According to the International Tennis Federation Development Officer for the Pacific Region Gene Ridgway, Maukaloa — who is in the the Boys 14 & Under Division — won on Friday by defeating his opponent 6-0 and 6-0. “Maukaloa was able to adapt his game style to the grass courts that they are playing on with ease,” said Ridgway via email to Samoa News.

Pacific Team members from Tahiti, Nicholas Lestergie and Christopher Shan each had two victories on Friday, while the other Tahitian team member Michael Emery competed hard before losing in three sets. Tamarua Payne (Cook Islands) showed much improvement from this time last year, playing solid grass court tennis for his wins on Friday, according to Ridgway.

“On Saturday, Michael Emery had two singles matches in the morning while the rest of the players trained with coaches Andrew Mailtorok and Malcom Kajer on the synthetic grass courts. Michael Emery started his main draw campaign in the 12 & Under with an 8-1 and an 8-0 win against his first two opponents,” he said.

In doubles matches on Saturday, Tammy Ackerman (Northern Mariana Islands) and Charlotte Littlejohn of Australia won 3-6, 6-2, 10-2 (Super Tie Break) against Bronte Argent and Samantha Nyika. Other Pacific team members in doubles, Neghar Rastguiy (Northern Mariana Islands) and Ayana Rengil (Palau) defeated China Conradie and Maddison Stork 6-1, 6-1 while Michael Emery and Christopher Shan defeated Ryan Warden and Dillon Hillmen 7-5, 6-0.
