Samoa PM calls on cyclone victims to help themselves

Samoa’s Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has called on victims of Cyclone Evan to rise up and start rebuilding their lives.Tuilapea has stressed the concept of self help where those who suffered losses in the cyclone take charge of rebuilding their lives instead of depending on the government for assistance. The Prime Minister is quoted by the Samoa Observer saying that there are other means of rebuilding houses that were destroyed. He says that Samoa is a nation that does not rely on other people for help, rather their own families. He said the victims of Cyclone Evan have relatives overseas that can help them, instead of waiting for the government.Tuilaepa said the government has not yet finalized any assistance for individual families because the assessment of cyclone damages are still continuing. He says damage from cyclone Evan is minimal when compared to cyclones Ofa and Val where most of the country was affected.
