Popular comedian “Sumeo” dead at 58
Samoa’s very own comedian and funniest man Molioo Leaena “Sumeo” Si’itia passed away yesterday morning while getting ready to go on air for his very popular morning radio talk show called “Malu ole Taeao” on Talofa FM at 7 a.m. Samoa time.
Samoa News spoke with Enoka Keresoma who was at the studio with Sumeo yesterday morning. He said that while he and Sumeo were getting ready to go on air, Sumeo collapsed.
“I contacted the ambulance and tried to revive Sumeo; CPR was performed… while waiting for the ambulance, however the efforts were unsuccessful.”
Keresoma said Sumeo collapsed at 7:05 a.m. and died on the way to Tupua Tamasese Meaole hospital in Mato’otua.
He added that Sumeo will be sorely missed not just as a co-worker but a funny man, who lightens up the whole office every day with his jokes, both on and off air.
Samoa News understands his wife, Liai Si’itia, is overseas attending a business meeting in Bangkok.
Sumeo’s three boys were notified of the death of their father immediately after the incident.
Sumeo’s duo with Samoa’s other favorite comedian Petelo, became household voices for many families on Radio Polynesia for more than 10 years.
Sumeo and Petelo videos on YouTube are also a hit with Samoans living off island.
One of Sumeo’s close friends, Marieta Heidi Ilalioa, a reporter with the Samoa Observer, told Samoa News she’s still trying to cope with Sumeo’s sudden passing.
“I still can't believe he's gone. Sumeo is a funny, loving person that anyone would want to be friends with,” she said.
Sumeo was 58 years old and from the villages of Lotofaga Aleipata and Vaitele fou.
The last time Sumeo was in the territory was early July upon an invitation by Gubernatorial team Lolo Letalu Moliga and Lemanu Peteli Mauga. Comedian Sumeo and sidekicks Pili and Ne’emia performed before the senior citizens who were treated with entertainment and lots of laughs.
