Music lovers in Samoa are in for a treat this week.A star-studded cast of artists is in the country for one-off concert at Gym 1 Tuana’imato on Thursday (today in Apia).Among them are ‘J Williams,’ ‘Pieter T’, ‘Swiss’ and the voice of Pacific Soul, Julie Taale, better known as ‘Mz J.’ The stars will feature in the Bluesky ‘One Love Tour’ concert, performing in both Pago Pago, American Samoa and Samoa.New Zealand-based Samoan, J Williams,whotouched down in Samoa for the first time yesterday. He told the Samoa Observerhe is ‘excited and blessed’ for the opportunity to perform in Samoa.“I’m happy to see my people,” he said.“I’m excited to see Samoa, and I’m especially excited to meet my family here. I’m also looking forward to performing at the concert – since it will be a first for me.”J Williams, who was devoted to dance, said his singing career started at the back of a van while he was on a dance tour.His music label (Illegal Musik/Warner Music NZ) happened to be nearby and heard him singing.“They stopped the car and told me to sing,” Mr. Williams said.“So I sang for them and right then and there – on the side of the road – they said, ‘We want to make you a star.’ Since that day, I’ve been making music and it’s taken me around the world, to countries such as Japan, Germany, the United States and Australia.”Mr. Williams said he is keen to team up with local artists to record Samoan music.For Julie Taale, (Mz. J), music is in her blood.She grew up in a large musical family of nine, and began singing at the age of seven, with her father as her “first music teacher.”“I sang at every opportunity,” she said.“I love music – it’s given me so many opportunities and it’s taken me to many beautiful places in the world.”Ms. Taale is recording a Samoan album with her parents, who are also musically talented.
