Inter Island Air using 30-seat plane for holiday season

To accommodate the expected heavy traffic on the inter Samoa route, locally based Inter Island Airways has started utilizing its Dornier 328 aircraft, which carries 30 passengers. The use of the larger aircraft was to begin Saturday, but instead, it began Friday with the 8a.m. flight due to high demand, according to an airline official.

Inter Island has a 19-seat plane used year round for flights between Pago Pago and Samoa, as well as flights between Tutuila and the Manu’a islands.

However, an airline official says that December is always a busy month for travel on the inter Samoa route, and higher  demand begins the week before Christmas, heading into the New Year.

Therefore, the official said the company decided to start using its 30-seater Dornier plane, which also has enough capacity to carry more cargo. The 30-seat plane will be utilized throughout December and into the first week of January next year.

The airline will also continue to use the 19-seat plane for any extra demand on the inter Samoa route, while at the same time, it will add Manu’a flights as needed.

Inter Island’s newly trained cabin crew will staff the 30-seat plane, which operates to and from Faleolo International Airport on Upolu.
