Manu’a polling stations close showing early lead for candidates Lolo and Lemanu

The five polling stations in the Manu’a island group have completed the voting process for today’s run-off election in the gubernatorial race, between the teams of Lt. Gov. Faoa Aitofele Sunia/Taufete’e John Faumuina and Lolo Matalasi Moliga/Lemanu Peleti Mauga.

Residents in Manu’a as well as poll watchers for the candidates say that the polls were closed around 11a.m. after all electors on the voter rolls had cast their ballots. Once the polls were closed, the counting process got underway and was completed about an hour later.

Unofficial results from Manu’a polling stations show that the team of Lolo/Lemanu has taken an early lead in election results. Samoa News is withholding the preliminary results until the polls are officially closed at 6p.m. today.

On Tutuila, some small polling stations at outlying villages are also expected to close early, once all electors have cast ballots.

Meanwhile, local and off island absentee ballots will be counted at the Election Office after 3p.m. and this process is expected to last for about an hour. News reporters as well as poll watchers present will sign a form promising not to publicly release the results until the polls are closed and this is in accordance with local law.

Samoa News online will be update as new information is received.
