Police in Samoa on full alert after threat over land dispute

The police in Samoa are expected to provide security when the government land surveyors return soon to measure the ten acre block of land to build a US-funded district hospital opposite Faleolo International airport.The Prime Minister, Tuila’epa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, has said on his radio programme that police officers will be camped at the location while the survey of the land of the Samoa Trust Estates Corporation is being done.The prime minister said the village broke the law by trespassing on the land and stopping the surveyors three weeks ago.Tuila’epa has pointed out the scheduled meeting with the village last Thursday did go ahead with only the village mayor and a government woman representative for Satapuala village attending.He said the representatives were told to select three village members to be part of a government committee who will look into the land dispute issue.
