ASG workers get paid early

Manu’a Cession Day celebration came early for the more than 3,000 government employees who got paid Friday instead of Monday, which should be the ASG pay day except it's also an ASG holiday.

Gov. Togiola Tulafono declared Monday a holiday marking the Manu’a Cession Day 108 years ago, when the Manu’a Islands were ceded to the United States and became part of American Samoa.  (See Friday’s story for more information).

The two local banks were extra busy Friday because of the early ASG pay day and also ASG retirees cashing their retirement benefit checks for the middle of the month. (The mid month checks are released on the 15, which for this month falls on Sunday and then Monday is the ASG holiday)
