Mine Pase now set for federal sentencing next month

Sentencing for Mine Pase at the federal court in Washington D.C. has been continued again, with a new date of June 19 to stand before U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton, according to federal court records.

Pase, the 62-year old sister of Lt. Gov. Faoa Aitofele Sunia, pled guilty last November to one count of conspiracy to steal more than $325,000 in AmeriCorps grant funds, which were provided to the American Samoa Special Services Commission (ASSSC).

Pase had served as executive director of ASSSC from March 2001 to October 2010, and was initially scheduled for sentencing Mar. 23 this year, but this has been twice continued.

One of the reasons for the continuation was to allow her attorney, Assistant Federal Public Defender, Michelle Peterson, to travel to American Samoa from Washington D.C. to meet with the defendant in preparation for sentencing.

Court documents filed yesterday confirmed the new sentencing date of June 19 and requested the court to authorize the U.S. Marshals’ Service “to make travel arrangements designed to bring her (Pase) from American Samoa” to Washington D.C. “for sentencing hearing and to return her to American Samoa at the conclusion of the hearing.”
