Little League Baseball summer program begins Saturday at Solaita Field

With some of the local high schools and elementary schools already out for the summer, and the rest soon to follow, the American Samoa Baseball Association (ASBA) would like to inform the public that the 2012 Little League Baseball Summer Program will have its first baseball clinic, practice and demonstration along with free registration, tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field in Tafuna, for children 5-16 years of age.

There will also be an array of equipment for sale at discounted prices. All of this according to president of the American Samoa Baseball Association (ASBA) and the American Samoa Little League Baseball Association, Victor Langkilde.

“Last year’s summer program was a success, thanks to the Honorable Governor Togiola Tulafono, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation Samana Semo Ve’ave’a, Department of Human and Social Services Director Leilua Stevenson and the president of the American Samoa National Olympic Committee (ASNOC), Ken Tupua.

Last year’s program also marked the first year without past ASBA and ASNOC President Ben Solaita, said Langkilde.

The opening last year was well attended in which the governor, Most Reverend Bishop John Quinn Weitzel, Director Samana, Director Stevenson and Laufasa Solaita (wife of the late Ben Solaita) were present according to Langkilde.

“There were close to 150 children at that time and we are anticipating an increase in participation this year. I would like to invite the public out to support these little league players. If you have children and would like them to learn a great sport, bring them out tomorrow morning”.

“ASBA would like to thank its partners and the community for supporting American Samoa Baseball every year,” he said.
