Fiji chief says her people are tired of coup culture

The Paramount Chief of the province of Rewa in Fiji says the younger generation don’t know anything else but a life of coups.Ro Teimumu Kepa, who holds the Tui Dreketi title, made those comments at a provincial council meeting this week, which led to the Government suspending any further meetings.Fiji has experienced four coups since 1987 and Ro Teimumu Kepa says she pleaded with the military that her people are sick and tired of them and it is affecting the education of young people. “Those children who were born in the 1980s up until now they have known nothing else but coups and we did not want our children to be brought up thinking that coups were a normal part of their lives, we did not want them to be brought up with a coup culture governing their life.”Ro Teimumu Kepa says Fiji takes many steps backwards economically with each coup because it takes years to recover. The Government couldn’t be reached for any comment as to why it has suspended Rewa provincial council meetings.
