Man still missing since March 4, 2012
Captain Lavata’i Taase Sagapolutele who heads the Criminal Investigation with the Department of Public Safety is reaching out to the public for assistance in the search of 39-year old Faafetai Tuinei who has been missing since March 4, 2012.
Captain Sagapolutele said they are receiving tips from the public, however those clues have been unsuccessful in the search. Posters with photos of Tuinei have been posted in stores in the western district with contact information included.
Sagapolutele said this case is different from a majority of missing person’s cases that they have handled in the past. “Usually family members file missing person cases and two to three days later the missing person returns to their family — yet this one has been over 50 days since Tuinei has been missing.” He added that it has been difficult in this case, because they have yet to isolate who Tuinei was with before he went missing.
Samoa News was told that family members of Tuinei from Aunu’u and Auasi have also sought help from a tarot reader (faipele) for some answers, but that has been unsuccessful as well.
Nu’u Tuinei, father of the missing man, filed a missing persons complaint five days after his son did not return home. The father told Samoa News that Tuinei, who works for the Department of Public Works under the National Emergency Grant (NEG), was last seen when he went to a party at his office.
Captain Sagapolutele is again asking the public to please call 633-1111 or 911 if you have any information. He said DPS detectives have been working after hours searching for the man.
