Six fautasi advance to international race

Fautasi fans and supporters of fautasi teams spread out along the bay area shoreline early this morning for a good seat to watch the preliminary fautasi race of the 2012 Flag Day with the Satani fautasi of Nu’uuli winning the race.

Cheers, applause and yells broke out from the shoreline crowd as the race got underway before 8:45a.m. instead of the scheduled time of 9 a.m. It was decided to commence the race once all fautasi were in place at the starting line for the 4.3 mile race which began just outside of the entrance to Pago Pago Harbor.

Media broadcasters reported some hick-ups before the start of the race because of changes made by the Fautasi Committee.

According to the preliminary results, Satani II of Nu’uuli first place, second place Aeto of Pago Pago; 3rd place Fua’o of Vatia; 4th place Matasaua II of Manu’a; 5th place Iseula of Fagatogo; 6th place Sharks of Samoana High School; 7th place Fetu o le Afiafi of Fagaalu; 8th place Fealofani Samoa III of Fagasa and 9th place Paepae Ulupo’o of Aua.

The stop six fautasi will now advance to the main championship final on Apr. 18 and this race includes the fautasi from Salelologa, Savai’i. This race begins at 8 a.m.

The three fautasi that didn’t make the top six today, will race Monday with another team from Fagaalu rowing the Fa’asaulala fautasi, previously owned by Vailoatai. This race is set for 12noon.
