Intro to swimming & water safety set for Saturday

The American Samoa Aquatics Agency (ASAA), in conjunction with the Department of Parks and Recreation will be conducting a free ‘Introduction to Swimming and Water Safety’ class this coming Saturday at Utulei Beach Park from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for anyone 8 years of age and over.

“I urge everyone to come out for this free class. You need to contact me at 733-1224 if you plan on coming out for the lesson,” said head of ASAA, Zero Iaulualo.

“We need to know the number of participants, so “so please call before Saturday,” he added.

“I constantly see families with their young children in the water, especially on Saturdays, and I’m constantly wondering if they know how to swim; and do the parents who are watching over their kids in the water know how to swim? If they see their kids drowning or someone else drowning, do they know how to save them? This is everyone’s chance now to learn the basics of swimming and water safety. It could save your life, or someone’s else’s life”.

“We will be doing all of this, only if the Environmental Protection Agency gives the all clear for clean water.” he noted.

With an all clear by EPA, ASAA will also be giving swimming lessons to some of the Boy Scouts who will be working on their ‘Aquanaut’ Merit Badges, this Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m.

“I want to thank Mr. Ve’ave’a for letting us teach here at the park,” said Iaulualo.
