His remarks follow:

“Thank you to all the players for enduring the torrid weather and still were able to give a superb performance through pure determination and sacrifice. You all have travelled far for this victory and you have worked hard for this successful performance and positive outcome for you as players, for our football program and for American Samoa. Thank you for carrying our American Samoa flag with pride.

“Thanks and congratulations also to Head Coach Pooch Ta’ase and our coaching staff for all the hard work, and aspiring to better our youth and their future through sports competition.

“I also want to say thank you to the people of the Territory for their prayers, love and support for our team. We were all there in spirit to root for American Samoa.

“With the huge time difference between Australia and Washington DC, Mary and I stayed up late into the night to track and follow the updates of the game on the internet. I want to thank Lieutenant Governor Faoa Sunia, who is with the team in Australia, and also all the tweet updates on Twitter from those who were at the game. Thank you very much.

“Congratulations again. Now let’s stay humble and work even harder in our preparation for the International Federation of American Football World Championship in Austin, Texas in June.”
