Search still on for fishermen

The search continues for three Samoan fishermen and their boat ‘Fefe i le Sou II’ missing at sea since Monday last week. Yesterday the Police Maritime Wing adviser, Matthew Richardson said the search is continuing but a decision will be made tomorrow whether to continue or not.“We don’t want to call off the search until the entire search area that RCC NZ’s computer modeling developed based on drift rates, wind and weather has been properly searched’” he said in an email message. He said that included the “rugged coastline of Tutuila in American Samoa”. Richardson also indicated that “US flagged fishing vessels and Inter Island Airways are assisting over there. Polynesian Airlines has also offered to help by keeping an eye out”. “The search might be called off by Tuesday afternoon if nothing has been found as the P3 Orion is a very capable search aircraft and if the alia was floating then they really should have found it by now”.By tomorrow the NZ Air Force based P3 Orion will have been searching for three days.According to Richardson, Samoan Police will make the decision if the search is to be stood down.
