Top teams emerge after women’s latest President’s Cup round

Black Roses, Utulei youth and Kiwi Soccers have emerged as the top teams after the second round of pool play of the women’s 2012 FFAS President’s Cup held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

Black Roses leads Pool A after beating Green Bay 2-1 while Utulei Youth is on top of Pool B after winning by the same margin against Pago Youth and Kiwi tops Pool C after a forfeit win over Ilaoa & To’omata. The Tafuna Jets beat Vaiala Tongan 9-0 while the match between Lion Heart and Taputimu Youth will be played this coming Saturday.

In the race for the second best No. 2 team to qualify for the playoffs along with the pool winners, Pago Youth currently leads that category with four points while the Jets are second.

POOL A

BLACK ROSES 2, GREEN BAY 1

Green Bay, despite fielding only 9 players throughout the match, gave Black Roses a run for their money especially after scoring first.

I’u Letoi and Lornalisa Sagapolutele came through for Black Roses with the former providing the equalizer and the latter scoring the game-winner with only minutes to spare in the match.

TAFUNA JETS 2, VAIALA TONGAN 1

Samantha Gase scored four in helping the Jets win big against Vaiala Tongan while teammate Lisa Luani completed a hat trick.

POOL B

UTULEI YOUTH 2, PAGO YOUTH 1

Fuata’i Siatu’u calmly struck the penalty kick in the second half to give Utulei Youth the 2-1 win over feisty opponent Pago Youth.

Siatu’u scored twice with her first goal coming in the first half.

Pago’s Lynn Tualaulelei answered with a PK on the equalizer before Siatu’u’s second score gave Utulei the edge.

POOL C

KIWI SOCCERS 3, ILAOA & TO’OMATA 0

Kiwi Soccers were declared winners of their match after Ilaoa & To’omata failed to show up to the field on time for their kickoff.
