U.S. Army Maj. Ulu Elia Porter slected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel

U.S. Lieutenant Colonel Ulu Elia Porter

Fort Irwin,, CA — American Samoa native and graduate of Samoana High School, U.S. Army Maj. Ulu Elia Porter was recently selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. He’s currently Chief of the Department of Behavioral Health at Weed Army Community Health Hospital at Fort Irwin, California. The 16-year Army veteran is also pursuing a doctorate degree in social work, with a focus on ‘Reducing Intimate Partner Violence in the Military’ at the University of Southern California.

Porter and his staff recently toured the Desert Parkway Behavioral Healthcare Hospital to view the newly opened, 23-bed wing dedicated to serving military personnel and first responders.

Lt. Col. Porter is the son of the late Robert Asoau Porter of Fagatogo and Falefa Tela of Faleasao, Manu’a.

He is the brother of former Samoa News journalist, MaryJane Porter, who is also in the US Army. MaryJane and her mother currently reside in Washington state.
