More pageant contestants arrive in Solomons

Jannie Tuivaiti, the reigning Miss South Pacific, and Miss American Samoa, Eleitino Tuiasosopo, both arrived yesterday and were greeted at the airport by our own Miss Solomon Islands, Tema Wickham.The two women are here in preparation for the Carpenters’ Miss South Pacific Pageant taking place in Honiara next week. Miss Fiji, Priscilla Reddy, was the first to arrive on Tuesday and women from a total of nine neighbouring Pacific nations will be arriving over the next few days.The pageant officially begins with a church service on Sunday where the event is given a blessing by the church.The women will then attend various corporate functions and visit selected charities and institutions during the week, before the float parade and market day, which is free and open to the public on Thursday 5 December.The market day starts at 10am at FOPA Village and the float parade takes place from 4.30pm.The day will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display from around 8.30pm, which is only the second occasion where there have been fireworks in Solomon Islands.The Crowning Gala is the grand finale of the pageant where the reigning Miss South Pacific hands over her title to the new winner.Preparations are currently underway to beautify the Pacific Paradise venue to ensure a stunning event as it will televised internationally.
