Manu's successes at Northern Hemisphere tour raises ranking

Samoa Rugby Union president Tuiloma Pule Lameko expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation for the Manu Samoa Team in the great success and results of the Northern Hemisphere Tour against Canada, Wales and France.

He said on behalf of Chairman Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegao, Manu Samoa has achieved the key goals of the build up to the 2015 RWC through;

(a) lifting the iRB ranking from 12th in May 2012 to 8th (possibly 7th) as of December 2012 which now guarantees Samoa in the second band of teams for the 2015 RWC pooling;

(b) blooding in growing pool of new players since May 2012 which will form the core players for the 2015 RWC

(c) building up a coaching and management team specialists under the Head Coach. 

 The players, coaching and management team have done a tremendous job and played extremely well. They are to be congratulated and the results are speak for itself.

SRU also thanked the Government and sponsors.

The 2013 season  presents a schedule of anticipated higher level of competitions for the Manu Samoa. Indicatively, the Pacific Nations Cup 2012 win by Manu Samoa will result in the national team participating in South Africa, in what is to be potentially, a 4-Nation Competition between host Nation South Africa, the possibilitiesof the northern teams like Scotland and Italy with Samoa as the only Pacific Island nation.

This schedule is expected to occur in the June Test Window 2013.

In addition, the annual Northern Hemisphere Tour 2013 is anticipated for Manu Samoa to play 2 x Tier One Nations and 1 x Tier 2 Nation.

2014 can expect a new revised Pacific Nations Cup format with a potential extension of participating teams from various rugby regions.
