Manoa conference discusses Pacific climate change

HONOLULU (AP) — Pacific island scholars and leaders are gathering in Honolulu to discuss how climate change is affecting their communities.Participants are representing a broad range of places including the Solomon Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Hawaii. The three-day conference at the University of Hawaii, Manoa began Thursday and lasts through Saturday.The discussions are exploring the environmental, social, cultural, political, economic and legal impacts of climate change.They are featuring panel discussions, speeches and presentations of academic papers. Organizers say the conference aims to facilitate dialogue between Hawaii and Pacific Islander communities.
