Local tennis players look strong going into final day of singles match

This is the final day for singles action in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) East Pacific Qualifying 2012 Tournament for Junior tennis players eighteen years of age and younger, taking place at the tennis courts at Lions Park. American Samoa, Samoa and Tonga are competing in this year’s meet.

As reported by Samoa News throughout the week, the players are competing for a spot next month in the Pacific Oceania Junior Championship (POJC) that will be taking place in Fiji from August 6-10. The top two male and female players from each age group in this tournament, which will be a total of 12 players, will be representing the East Pacific.

In the Boys 18 & under division, Christopher Sami and Christian Duchnak, both of American Samoa have dominated their matches, along with Samoa’s Lars Cronin who had been playing strongly.

The Girls 18 & under division, had Loloma Ripley of Samoa and Leilani Duchnak going undefeated in the first two days of play, but on this last day in the singles, it’s still anyone’s match.

The Boys 15 & under appear to be very close, with all of the players taking to it the wire on this last day of singles competition, while one of the hot hands in the Girls 15 & under is American Samoa’s Kalani Soli.

In the Boys 12 & under, Harley Cronin of Samoa and Theodore Herdrich of American Samoa will be leading the group with Tonga’s Afemui Tuapasi right behind them.

One of the leaders in the Girls 12 & under is Tonga’s Skylawn Palelei going into this final day of singles play.
