Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Sagitea Filoiali’i, the new ASG Workmen’s Compensation Commissioner, testified last week Friday for the first time before the Fono Joint Budget Committee on his office’s FY 2020 budget proposal of $255,000.

The ASG Workmen’s Compensation Division employs seven people.

When questioned by the committee, Filoiali’i said he was appointed last October by the governor and started on the job last December. According to him, there are about 60-70 workmen’s compensation cases filed every fiscal year, and as of last week, there were only 10 pending cases.

The Workmen’s Compensation Office is currently a division of the Human Resources Department, which reported in its FY 2019 second quarter performance report the anticipation of transferring Workmen’s Compensation under the Governor’s Office, as directed and authorized by Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga.
