Woman reports man threatening with machete
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A 51-year-old man from Alofau who was walking around with a machete in hand was arrested Monday.
Siaosi Uiese made his initial appearance in District Court yesterday morning before Judge Fiti Sunia. He is charged with private peace disturbance.
Sunia established a 'no bail' status for Uiese and he was remanded back to custody until his next court hearing, which is Oct. 10th.
The government claims that it was 5:10p.m on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 when the Central Police Station received a call for assistance from a woman regarding her brother-in-law being angry and walking around with a machete.
When cops arrived at the scene, they were able to speak to the woman who told police that Uiese is her husband's brother and he moved on to her family land a month ago after he and his family were evicted from their former residence.
The woman claims that when she and her husband approached Uiese regarding their living arrangements on her land, Uiese became angry, saying the couple was trying to get rid of him.
The woman claims she tried to talk to Uiese but he started yelling, telling her that her husband (Uiese's brother) was having an affair with his wife. Uiese allegedly slammed a table, grabbed the machete, and proceeded to walk around the area in anger, as if he was looking to provoke violence.
The woman and her husband left their home immediately and headed for the road, to avoid further contact with Uiese who allegedly made verbal threats that he would shoot or kill somebody over the matter.
Officers apprehended Uiese and transported him to the Fagaitua Substation where he was booked and later confined at the Territorial Correctional Facility (TCF).
He was sober throughout the ordeal.
During the booking process, Uiese was allegedly acting strange, talking to himself and an invisible being — as if he was delirious.
Uiese’s spouse told officers that her husband constantly claims that he is possessed by demons.
