Visitors survey underway at PPG

Four enumerators have been hired, after training, and are now conducting the American Samoa Visitors Bureau’s Air Visitor Survey at the Pago Pago International Airport for travelers departing on Hawaiian Airlines, Talofa Airways and Polynesian Airlines.

The local first ever type of survey, is a joint project between the Visitors Bureau and the South Pacific Tourism Organization, in which American Samoa is a founding member. The Visitors Bureau had sought SPTO’s support of the survey, which among other things, would determine how much contribution tourism makes to the local economy.

Visitors Bureau Executive Director David Vaeafe had told Samoa News two months ago that “valuable data” collected from the survey includes, “purpose of visit, where they stayed, what activities they did, how much did they spend, which will give a value of the contribution tourism makes to the economy.”

Participants of the survey, which began Dec. 1 and runs through May 31, 2017, will have the option of filling in a paper survey form or electronically on an iPad. Additionally, all participants will receive a “small gift” from the Visitors Bureau for taking part.
