Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa Power Authority’s former managing director Paul Young, will be joining the staff of the Governor’s Office focusing — on among other things — promoting industry development.

Samoa News had received information in the last three days that Young, who resigned more than a week ago from ASPA after being there since the summer of 2016, has been recruited by the Governor’s Office.

Responding to media inquiries, the Governor’s executive assistant Iulogologo Joseph Pereira confirmed yesterday as “true” regarding the recruitment of Young, who “will be focusing and providing technical assistance” on several matters.

Among them is “promoting industry development and economic diversification by supporting existing and emerging industries; attracting new investment and businesses that can create more skilled, quality jobs in the territory; and work to increase exports of American Samoa’s products and services,” said Iulogologo.

Additionally, Young will also be focusing on securing funding from sources like private investors; non-traditional government funding agencies, i.e. sources of funding other than current sources like US Interior Department and US Environmental Protection Agency; and, loans and other debt instruments.

Furthermore, Young will lead in representing the American Samoa Government “on any and all social economic development federally incentivized programs” like the New Markets Tax Credit, Opportunity Zones, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Renewable Energy Tax Credits,” Iulogologo explained.

Young will also focus on other projects as assigned by the governor.
